What is Voice Recognition?

Voice recognition is the ability of a machine with the appropriate software loaded to interpret the spoken word and convert it to text or perform tasks from spoken instruction. The quality of the conversion from speech to text depends on a few things, the machine memory, how clearly the words are articulated, the quality of the microphone, and the vocabulary of the program being used.

On-premise Voice Recognition

Live on screen author recognition

Live on-screen author recognition - this solution requires software to be loaded onto the authors PC and the user is provided access via a code for that one machine. The user will need a recording device to record their voice (usually a microphone or headset microphone) and with a small delay as the author speaks, the words will appear on the whichever document the author has accessed to receive the text.

Who would use Live on screen author recognition?

  • Perfect for authors who wish to see real-time text appear as they dictate.

On-premise Voice Recognition

Backend or Server Voice Recognition

Backend or server recognition – this solution also requires software to be installed with a license or number of licenses but is usually installed on an onsite server, the author will use an input device (usually a microphone or headset microphone). The main difference is the author doesn't see the words appear in front of them, the author sends the voice recording to their administration resource and the software will turn the voice into text before being delivered, ready for administration to complete formatting of the document.

Who would use Backend Server author recognition?
  • Author uses existing dictation device they are comfortable with.
  • Those who want to just record and send.
  • Administration will format and complete the document.

Cloud Voice Recognition

SpeechWrite brings you the next generation of agile Cloud Voice Recognition, allowing professionals to quickly and accurately create high quality documentation. Easy to deploy with no requirement to install software locally or provision expensive infrastructure. Use in your e-mail, documents or PC applications, just point your cursor and go!

Cloud Voice Recognition

Live on-screen author recognition

This works in exactly the same way as on-premise voice recognition, where need a microphone and you will see the words appear on the screen in front of you in whichever document you have chosen, there are some big differences though. Because this is what we call cloud voice recognition there will be no software or license loaded locally (just a small driver to control the microphone etc) the software all sits in the cloud, so as you speak your voice is temporarily sent to the cloud recognised by the software and appears in your document. You still have full control to amend etc as you would with the on-premise solution.

Who would use Live on screen author recognition?
  • Ideal for agile and flexible working.
  • Where you use more than one machine or device.
  • If you want to always be on the latest version.

Cloud Voice Recognition

Backend Cloud Voice Recognition

Backend or cloud voice recognition works exactly the same as back end on-premise voice recognition, with the exception of the backend transcription being done securely in the cloud. The author doesn't see the words appear in front of them, the author sends the voice recording and the cloud software will turn the voice into text before being delivered, ready for administration to complete formatting of the document.

Who would use Backend on screen author recognition?
  • Ideal for authors who want to work on the go.
  • Prefers to use smartphones or mobile devices to dictate.
  • Does not want to format own documents.
